Eid el-fitr: Friday not Work free in Gombe – Gov
Chima Azubuike, Gombe
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has urged civil servants in the state to return to work on Friday.
Yahaya made this disclosure on Thursday, at the Government House, banquet hall after attending this year’s Durbar at Gombe Emir’s palace.
Recall that following the directive of the Sultan of Sokoto, on the sighting of the moon, Eid celebration was held on Thursday, while the Federal Government had declared Wednesday and Thursday as Public Holidays.

The governor’s declaration is based on the believe that many would rather stay at home to compensate for the shortcomings.
He said, “As we close here today, tomorrow I believe is not work free day. So let me remind everybody. Let me remind us that we shall be in the office tomorrow.”
While lamenting the security challenges in Nigeria and the calls for disintegration across the country, Yahaya applauded the relationship existing among christians and muslims, stressing that it must be protected by all and sundry.
“If Nigeria doesn’t stay together in peace, that would mean that the whole of Africa may not be in peace because of our number. In West Africa, one out of every three West Africa is a Nigerian; that means Nigeria is one type of West Africa and it constitutes significant part of the African contingent.
“You can imagine what it means to live peacefully, to live harmoniously and to cherish and live together bto ensure that we sustain the peace and tranquility that is in this country.
“I like to cease the opportunity to urge that we maintain the essence or the spirit of the Ramadan. If everyone tastes what his brother is going through, one can not imagine that a time would come in the history of Nigeria, that someone would come over night and hoodwink you, cover your face, tie your hands take you somewhere else to demand for ransom. It was not in our culture. So if we can feel what another person feels . So the need to fight to restore the normalcy existing in this country,” he added.
