Gombe NYSC inaugurates Covid-19 Vanguard

Twenty (20) corps members out of One thousand two hundred and thirty five (1,235) batch A stream II corps members serving in Gombe, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), orientation camp and some principal camp officials with the state coordinator as chairman have been charged with the responsibility of enlightening others on Covid-19 preventive measures.

Speaking on Friday, at the swearing in of corps members by Acting Chief Judge of Gombe;Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, State Coordinator Ada Imoni, said the vanguard is expected to sensitise camp community including traders around mammy market.
Imoni disclosed that everyone must comply to the laid down Covid-19 protocol, stressing that there must be conscious effort by all to adjust to the period describing it as ‘the new normal’.

According to her, the responsibility of mitigating a possible spread of Coronavirus is a collective response.
Imoni said, “The Covid-19 Vanguard inaugurated is saddled with the responsibility of sensitising the camp community on the dangers of the dreaded pandemic and the need to observe it protocols.You are expected to sensitise camp participants including camp market operators on preventive measures; regular use of the facemask, washing of hands under running water and use of alcohol based sanitizer.

“The vanguard is also expected to work hand in hand with the sanitation committee to ensure that handwash facilities placed at strategic locations within the camp are always filled with water. All hands must be on deck as we kick Covid-19 out of Nigeria.It is your responsibility to ensure strict implementation of the measures put in place for containment of the dreaded virus.”
While appealing to corps members to conform to required standard, the coordinator noted that punishment would be meted appropriately to defaulters.
She added, “for indiscipline we have put in place mechanism, that is why we have bye-laws. It stipulate sanctions for anti social behaviour exhibited, any behaviour not inline with NYSC guidelines will be sanctioned using our bye-laws.
Meanwhile, Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, in an earlier virtual broadcast to corps members encouraged them to take the Covid-19 vaccine, adding that it was not compulsory.
Ibrahim said, “I wish to advice corps members to adhere to Covid-19 safety measures. Coronavirus vaccines will be administered on camp to interested participants, as it will not be compulsory.”
