Gombe United ends El-kanemi Warriors’ 14 matches rule

Goals from Abba Maigari and Ahmed Jimoh were just on point to give Gombe United a two nil victory in the week fifteen of the 2020/2021 Nigeria National League (NNL) fixture played at the Pantami stadium, Gombe.
The Savannah Scorpions went into the match knowing full well how important the match was after loosing away to Oyah Sports Fc in a rescheduled #NNL21 match, according to the club’s media officer, Halilu Teli.
It took thirty three minutes before Gombe United broke the jinx; Abba Maigari capitalized on the goal scramble inside the box from Sani Shehu resultant corner kick as he slot home with a simple touch.
As the visitors pushed for an equaliser, the hosts coordinated series of attacks which leds to a corner kick; and Ahmed Jimoh who has been brilliant in the game headed home Usman Abbas’s kick in the thirty eight minutes to increased their tally to two.
There was a scary moment for the Savannah Scorpions when the referee Sani Abdullahi from Kano in the sitxty two minutes awarded a penalty kick after Sani Shehu handled ball from a deflected shot; Bala Zaka stepped on the ball but his was superbly saved by goalkeeper Itodo Akor.
Speaking further, Gombe United gaffer Aliyu Zubairu, who hailed his team’s 2 nill win against the Elkanemi warriors
Zubairu said, “It was a tensed match as both the two teams have been leading the group A1 log since the kick off of the match, but i told my boys to be calm and eventually we got the three points.
“You see the unbeaten run that was cut short by Oyah was as a result of playing two games in three days.But after a pep talk with the players they played wonderful against El-kanemi Warriors.”
While appraising his team’s preparedness in the next meeting against Fc Taraba
“We’ll get ready for them,since our victory over Aklosendi we haven’t any away match; we’re going there to try and get the maximum three points,” Gombe gaffer added.
Gombe United are now on the same point with El-kanemi Warriors (26) points; but the latter tops the group A1 table of the Northern Conference with goals superiority 12 goals as against the former 11goals.
