Gombe NYSC commences voluntary vaccination of 1,450 corps members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Gombe State, on Wednesday, commenced voluntary vaccination of 1,450 corps members against COVID-19 at NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp Amada, Gombe State.

Before the commencement of the exercise, the State Coordinator NYSC Gombe, Mrs Ada Imoni, in her remarks advised them to take the AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine, to guard against the spread of the virus , even though it was not compulsory.
The vaccine was administered by officials of Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with NYSC Corps medical personnel and supervised by the NCDC officials and the State Ministry of Health.
Imoni said the vaccination exercise which commenced today would last till thursday, Periscope Nigeria reports that all camp participants including officials had a mandatory COVID-19 screening prior to their enlistment on camp.

According to her, directives to vaccinate Camp participants came from NYSC Directorate Headquarters, where State Coordinators were requested to liaise with Primary Health Care in the State to carry out the exercise.
The camp coordinator revealed that the vaccination would be voluntary for interested corps members and camp Officials.
“The Covid-19 vaccine is not compulsory even though the camp is regimented but optional for corps members and camp Officials that will volunteer to be vaccinated,” she said

As at the time of filing this report, over 275 have been inoculated. Many of the corps members spotted by our correspondent expressed enthusiasm towards receiving their jab.
