In a bid to foster the culture of Humanitarianism and Volunteerism among the Nigerian youths, the Institute for Humanitarian Studies and Social Development (IHSD) in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has commenced the implementation of mainstreaming the concept of Humanitarianism and Volunteerism into the NYSC scheme.
This is with an on-camp Orientation for Batch ‘A’ Stream II Corps members in six (6) pilot states across the nation, Gombe State inclusive.
The project which is designed to produce highly skilled Nigerian youths amongst young graduates who will be proficient and professional in Humanitarian Services and NGO Management was piloted in Lagos, Gombe, Plateau, Rivers, Abia states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The IHSD Registrar, Dr. Prince Francis Origa has expressed optimism over the partnership with the NYSC, while describing it as timely.

According to him, the partnership would help Corps members build a career in the development sector, at the same time, bring about National development and imbed Nation building, adding that the partnership between IHSD and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) would promote intellectual capacity and competencies among Corps members in humanitarian services and volunteerism.
He revealed that the synergy would help them build a rewarding career in the non-profit and development sector of the economy.
Origa maintained that the partnership would be accelerated through the culture of humanitarianism and volunteerism.
Consequently, across the six pilot states selected , members of the Institute simultaneously conducted a general sensitization of Corps members on Volunteerism and Humanitarianism.
In Gombe, NYSC Camp, distinguished Humanitarian Naphtali Hadu Ligari (FIHSD), Humanitarian Gambo Hassan Bissu and Humanitarian Thomas Sunday Abah represented the Institute at NYSC Temporary Orientation Camp Amada.
The project is powered by the IHSD with our training partner – United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Nigeria office in partnership with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
One thousand four hundred and eleven (1,411), Corps members of the 2021 Batch A Stream II Orientation Course deployed to Gombe State, were sensitised.
