Buhari not interested in third term – Amb. Yerima Abdullahi
Chima Azubuike, Gombe
A former Minister of Education, Science and Technology, Amb. Yerima Abdullahi, has said the President, Muhammadu Buhari, would not seek for extension of his tenure in 2023.
Abdullahi who represented Gombe State at the Confab conveyed by former president Goodluck Jonathan, was also appointed ex ambassador to Malaysia during the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, revealed that Buhari has been doing a thankless job being leader of the country, and would not wait to roundoff.
He made this disclosure in Gombe on Wednesday, in an interview with our correspondent.
“The people should be more realistic and stop diverting the attention of the president, hoping that he will concentrate on mainly responding to such. I’m glad he is not losing concentration.
“Buhari has got two years to go. He has said he is not going to ask for a third term. No, I won’t ask him to seek for additional term. However, whether I ask him to he will not, I know him enough to know he will not want it. What is he gaining ?,” Abdullahi said.
While bemoaning the rate of insecurity in the country, the Elder statesman said the quagmire is hinged on those who do not like the face of the president, adding that he has a long time history which has remained impeccable.
He added, “Insecurity is a dare situation Nigeria has found itself, the causes are unfortunately many; some are historical, while some others are deep rooted and in the nature of certain groups to be doing legal things, like we found ourselves in Zamfara, in the East.
“The present situation has a political foundation because they are people who are not happy with president Buhari and they want to create the most difficult situation for him. However, this same people have some measure of control on the press and they are able to gather criticisms against Buhari.
“The truth will always remain, whether you like the face of Buhari face or not or the governance or not. However, bad you feel about Buhari, one thing that certainly you can not hold against him is stealing Public funds or misappropriating public funds because if there is one person that is alive and has handled so much responsibility in terms of public resources and he has not mismanaged them is Buhari. He started as governor of current North East, became minister of petroleum, including PTDF chairman, former Head of State.”
