Covid-19 Delta Variant: NCDC partners Gombe NYSC to sensitize PCMs on safe practices

A representative of Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. John Lamingo, has sensitized the 2021 Batch B stream I Prospective Corps Members (PCMs), deployed to Gombe State, on Coronavirus mode of transmission and preventive measures.

Speaking during the sensitization at NYSC temporary orientation camp Amada, Gombe State, on Thursday, he said the virus was first discovered in Wuhan, China in 2019, first case in Africa ; (Egypt) was discovered on 15th February,2020 and in Gombe State,the first case was recorded on March 18th 2020.
According to him, environmental condition, poor hygiene, air pollutants, host factor, pathogenic characteristics are some of the factors responsible for the spread and transmission of the virus .
Recall that about one thousand (1,000) prospective Corps members were trained at the first phase of the Covid-19 sensitization under the Covid-19 vanguard.
Lamingo said, “The incubation period of the virus is from 1-14 days, transmission can also be from inhaling droplets from an infected person.
“Some of the symptoms include; difficulty in walking, chest pain, fever and kidney failure ,shortness of breathe among other things.”
He added, “All camp participants must adhere to the Covid-19 safety measures not only on camp but also in your various places of primary assignment.With the outbreak of the Delta variant, we must adhere stricty to the Covid-19 Safety measures and learn to adjust to the new normal.”

Meanwhile, NYSC Gombe State Coordinator, Ada Imoni, while briefing prospective corps members urged them not to conceal their heath challenges, noting that aside the camp clinic which operates 24 hours, PCMs would be referred to a tertiary facility in the metropolis.
“Those with serious ailments that the camp clinic cannot handle will be referred to the Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe for proper check up and treatment.
” Do not hide your ailments. We have consultants and Corps medical personnel at our camp clinic to attend to you 24 hours,” Imoni said.
While commenting on relocation, she stressed that NYSC would grant that on three reasons including health, noting that on each grounds, corps members would attach evidence to buttress their claims.
She added, “NYSC grants relocation on three grounds; Health, marital and insecurity; which does not apply to Gombe State as it is one of the most secured States in the Northeast.”
