Gombe to support uptake of self care, self injection guidelines

Commissioner for Health Dr. Habu Dahiru, has assured Federal Ministry of Health and implementating partners of government’s collaboration to accept self care guideline.
Dahiru made this disclosure when a team led by a director with the Federal Ministry of Health, Lawrence Anyanwu, alongside John Snow Incorporated, Association of Reproductive Health, Pathfinder International, paid him courtesy visit to intimate him about the sensitization on self care guideline, self injection.
He stressed that the state under the leadership of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, is committed to supporting partnerships.

“We all know the role these organizations have played in the past in Gombe State, in other areas of healthcare delivery, am not surprised you are here again in particular to roll out the National Safe Care Guidelines and to ensure that there is safe injection and patient’s safety and also to provide easy access of commodities to clients through collaboration with the state ministry of health.
“Let me assure you that government will give high priority to this programme during it implementation and in particular, I want to emphasis issues of counterpart funding and mobilization of health workers to key into this programme to ensure success. Let me also tell you that my doors are open am a field man, I will go to the field with you, to ensure we give access to the community at the lowest level, to make them access this programme without any hindrance,” Dahiru said.
Also, Representative, Federal Ministry of Health, Anyanwu said the purpose of the delegation’s coming is to engage with stakeholders on the National Self Care Guideline, that has been developed to ensure that Nigerians are empowered to take care of their immediate health needs.
He said, “This is because there are alot of health interventions, that individuals can help themselves in accessing without necessarily waiting for the intervention of health service care providers, especially now that we are having the Covid-19 pandemic challenge where as much as possible individuals have to take precautionary measures to prevent undue exposure to other individuals.
“So these guidelines have been developed under the leadership of the reproductive health division with support from John Snow Incorporated, Association for Reproductive Health, Pathfinder International and World Health Organization among other development partners.”
According to him, the whole effort is to contribute to the ongoing attempt at ensuring that health interventions are holistically implemented with a view to improving health and wellbeing of citizens of this country.
Anyanwu added, “So having developed this document the next key step is to ensure that the document is introduced rolled out to all the states of the federation. So that stakeholders at these states can take over and ensure holistic implementations for the wellbeing of the citizens of the state.
“So honourable commissioner we are here to do that as the gatekeeper of the health care delivery system in the state on behalf the executive governor, we are engaging with you to let you know of this important document to prioritize it in the plans and policies of the state so that it could be funded, improve on the human resources and Infrastructural capacity in the state.
“We are hoping that resources and mobilize health care work force in the state to meet the process of taking messages contained in the guideline to the people and encourage them to accept the messages.”
