WE WERE ALL WRONG.
By Samuel Oludimu
We served the nation in this uniform (clarion call)
•We are not bandit
•We are not terrorist
•We are not fraudsters
•We are kind like every other good Nigerians.
We were sent to school by our parents so that we can be more THAN a good citizen.
We went through the rigours of academics curriculum of this great nation and never back-out
We were educated with the fear of God in us.
We served the nation wearing this uniform for 12 calendar months and In the hot sun, we were paraded to pay homage to the green flag and this we did with fullness of joy in us.
We crawled in the mud and under wires with the supervision of ever gallant Nigerian soldiers who demonstrated great loyalty to the fatherland. We were pronounced corps member as an endorsement for our great commitment to the fatherland.
We ate unsatisfactory meals with a smile on our faces and with the willingness to return to the parade ground to welcome the state officials.
Many of us do not make it, some died on the training ground while they gave their last respect to the national flag, some on their way to their posting stations while they were hoping to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Early in the morning in the cold we stood in awe to sing national anthem while our eyes are fixed on the Green and white flag, downloading the passion of our forefathers and hoping we are the generation that the nation is patiently waiting for.
But we were wrong!!!
•We were wrong for believing this commitment means a lot to the hoodlums who hide under the disguise of government to destroy our father land, the land of heroes who the nation allowed to die in grieve at Lekki Toll Gate during the EndSars protest, while singing national anthem and demanding the government to do the right thing so that our children can live in a country they can call HOME.
•We were wrong to believe the lies and the inconsistencies in the national budget, thinking the figures in the paper will be used for what it meant for, but the cartels and the Cabals smuggled out the big box to the foreign land and invest our sweat for their selfish gain and make us to live in abject poverty.
•We were wrong to believe that the changes we all clamoured for is here, until the government folded their hands and allowed the innocent citizens who in future will contribute to the economical growth and development of our nation die in a cold blood in the hand of terrorists and banditry.
•We were wrong to believe that the fathers in their old age will be willing to leave us a nation full of hopes and peace, but instead they enjoyed using our lives to play political card while they sip expensive wine in their dining rooms.
•We were wrong to think Nigerian soldiers are not strong enough to defeat terrorism in our nation,it is no longer a rumour that many of them are willing to fight, but corruption and gross wickedness could not afford the government to provide them the weapons needed to end terrorism.
Despite all these, we still chose to be faithful and loyal to our dear nation. Hence I call the youth to do what the government cannot do, let us love ourselves, be in our best moral and keep our hope strong to savage our nation.
Nigeria is not a Zoo
•Nigeria is not a failed nation for we can still rescue her through great and unbreakable unity irrespective of our tribes.
•Nigeria is a not unsafe nation for we can still demand proper security by watching one another’s back.
•Nigeria will be great again and nations of the world will say HOW DID IT HAPPEN and our response shall be;
•We cried to God
•We stayed united
•And we were determined.
We patiently wait without fear for Nigeria to be better again and We take a vow to represent her well anywhere we go👊🏿
May Nigeria triumph over her challenges.
AMEN…
