Nigerian Girl Guides Association Gombe State Chapter, has organised clean up exercise commemorating the 102 anniversary of the association.

The anniversary with the theme: Strengthening Intergenerational Leadership, was geared towards awakening values among young women.

Speaking shortly after the exercise, State Commission, Hauwa Musa Babaji, said the clean up activity was mapped out to positively impact the communities, adding that such event was held simultaneously in Ogun, Lagos and Abuja.
“we want the people to know the dangers of single-use plastics and we are advocating for them to reduce, reuse, recycle and to say no to single-use plastics,” Babaji said.
She added, “we are calling on the state government to support us in our fight against plastic pollution as this is detrimental to our ecosystem”.
Also speaking, Auwal Muhammad, A Gombe based Recycler, lauded the initiative. He noted that he had not taken note of plastic pollution.
“ I have never heard about plastic pollution, in fact, this is the first time I heard about it. I have been in this business for 4 years now,” he said.
Muhammad added that he considers the recycle business as a very lucrative business for him because he uses the money he earns from it to feed his family.
He said, “the money I earned from this business was what I used to get married and I still feed my family from this business.”
Periscope Nigeria reports that Muhammad also resells the plastic and even bottles to perfume traders, palm oil and groundnut oil traders and even people that sells local drinks such as tiger nut drinks.
