857 Corps Members swear oath of allegiance in Gombe
No fewer than 857 batch B stream I Prospective Corps Members were sworn in on Tuesday, this includes; 470 males and 387 females in Amada, orientation camp ground, Akko local government area of Gombe State.
The function was performed by the Acting Chief Judge of the state, Justice Muazu Pindiga, to the admiration of the 857 youths.
Recall that in a statement obtained earlier by our correspondent, the state had expressed readiness to welcome 1,350 Prospective Corps Members to it fold for the ongoing exercise.
Addressing the Gentlemen Corps Members, Director General of the scheme, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, reminded them of the validity of the oath of allegiance, adding that they should get acquitted with the Bylaws guiding corps members.
“The oath of allegiance, which you have just taken today, is solemn. I implore you to always find time to meditate over its spirit and letters, and be guided by same throughout the service year and beyond.
“Interestingly, the content of the NYSC oath has also influenced and the guiding principles of many patriotic Nigerians, years after their participation in the National Service. In the same vein, I advise you to familiarize yourselves with the content of both the NYSC Act and NYSC by-laws,” he said.

Ibrahim, who was represented at the ceremony by the State Coordinator, Mrs Ada Imoni, noted that the good conduct exhibited thus far should be continued, stressing that the necessary provisions of the relevant bylaws would be implored.
The Director General added, “It is gratifying to note that you have domesticated commendable level of discipline and enthusiasm since your arrival in camp. It is our ardent hope that you will keep up your good conduct throughout the exercise.
“You must comply strictly with all camp rules and regulations, and be obedient to your course officials . For the avoidance of doubt, we shall apply appropriate sanctions on recalcitrant corps members in line with the provisions of the NYSC by-laws.”
Ibrahim lauded the Presidential Steering Committee and Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), saying that their support has made the orientation camp continuous within the new normal of Coronavirus.
According to him, “I particularly appreciate NCDC for the continuous provision of Rapid Diagnostic Test Kits and sensitization materials for usage in all our orientation camps since the post – lockdown resumption of orientation course in November 2020.”
