Gombe gov splashes United FC 20m, bus, kits
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya has increased the monthly subvention of the state sponsored football team known as Gombe United Football Club from N12m to N20M.
Yahaya also made a bus donation, launched the team’s jersey to smoothen the activities of the scorpion especially during trainings and outings.
Announcing this on Saturday, at the Pantami Township Stadium shortly after a friendly match between Gombe United and Super Pillar, which ended 4-0 against Super Pilar.
Yahaya urged them to conquer across all facets of the forthcoming participations, stressing that the government should be encouraged to invest more with superlative performances.
Recall that recently Gombe United was promoted to Nigeria National League after suffering relegation for sometime.
Yahaya said, “We came to celebrate with them and to assure you of our continued support. We will continue to support them so that they can remain forever and ever.
“What we are doing is to support them so that they can compete and create a window of opportunity for our youth who can go all out to conquer the world, conquer the federal republic of Nigeria in sports, football and to be our ambassadors tomorrow. So, that you can represent us anywhere, any day. I congratulate you all.”
Speaking earlier, Chairman Sports Commission Adamu Soye lauded the contributions of the current administration towards the development of sports in the state.
According to Soye, since the coming of the current administration, the governor supports them with 12 million naira monthly, noting that an increase would help them achieve much more.
On his part, Larry Daniel, Chairman Gombe United said without adequate financial assistance of the government it would have been impossible for the recent promotion of the team to Nigeria National League.
Daniel said, “With the current support the team would represent the country at the continental level.”
