Gombe gov’s wife gives 500 women N10m grant
No fewer than 500 less privileged Gombe women have received N20,000 each totalling 10 million naira to cushion the effect of hardship.

Speaking during the disbursement on Saturday, Wife of Gombe State Governor, Asma’u Yahaya, said the 10 million naira given to indigent women would serve as grant, to start up their businesses, improve on the existing ones, in order for them to become economically empowered.
Yahaya who doubles as first lady of Gombe stated this in a press statement made available to our correspondent by Bintu Sunmonu, Senior Special Assistant to the governor on media and publicity, office of the first lady.
She revealed that the women, were drawn from the 11 local government areas of the state, adding that the money is given through her Jewel Care Foundation, “with the soul aim of assisting more women become breadwinners and active supporters of their families.”
While assuring the beneficiaries of further assistance, the wife of the governor lauded them for consistently supporting the programmes and agenda of her spouse towards a rewarding Gombe.
“We will redouble our efforts, in bringing developmental initiatives that will help address financial challenges of the women folk.
“The only way to fight poverty, is to properly utilize the funds provided, in business ventures of your choice and remain focused and committed to achieving success.
“I want to thank Gombe women and youths, for always supporting and standing by the government of Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, through thick and thin,” she added.
On his part, Chairman, board of trustees, Jewel Care Foundation, Hamisu Saulawa said he was very pleased with the conduct of the women.
Saulawa urged them not to disappoint the governor’s wife, noting that she has confidence in their abilities to change the lot of the family for the better.
He said, “This shows how resilient and resourceful they will be, in dealing with their businesses.”

Also speaking, The royal father at the occasion the Yariman Gombe, Abdulkadir Abubakar, was full of praises to the governor and his wife for always coming up with laudable initiatives, that have direct bearing on the common people, urging them to keep the tempo.

Speaking separately, Commissioners for women Affairs, Naomi Awak and Science, Innovation and Technology Dr. Aishatu Maigari, HOD, at the Federal University Kashere, Dr. Bertha Daya, as well as the zonal and state APC women leaders, spoke on the need for the beneficiaries to be thankful, urging them to see beyond the N20,000.
