Covid-19: NYSC DG warns corps members ahead of December FG date
Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim has warned batch C stream I corps members ahead of Federal Government December deadline.
Ibrahim made this disclosure on Tuesday, during the terminal parade ceremony of 1,198 corps members in Amada orientation camp Akko local government area of Gombe State.
Recall that the federal government through Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 and Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha in October hinted that 1st of December would be deadline for civil servants to be vaccinated.
Periscope Nigeria reports that they would be required to show evidence of Covid-19 vaccination or present Covid-19 PCR result done within 72 hours to gain access to their offices.
Represented by the State Coordinator Ada Imoni, Ibrahim urged them not to disregard all the protocols they have imbibed while on camp, noting that they should enlighten others whom are less informed about the pandemic.
“Let me use this opportunity to remind you that the COVID-19 prevention protocols are not meant to be observed in the Orientation Camp alone. With your level of awareness of the virus, I am confident that you would continue to be on your guard everywhere you find yourselves while also helping to sensitize members of the host communities,” he said.
While stressing on the importance of the vaccine, the Director General noted that since their places of primary assignment were majorly government offices, it would be inevitable for them to evade the sanctions from erring workers.
Ibrahim added, “May I also remind you of the Federal Government’s plan to make presentation of evidence of COVID-19 vaccination a condition for gaining entry to government offices from 1st December, 2021. You are, therefore, expected to make yourselves available for the vaccination as the rule will apply to you in your places of Primary Assignment.
“I will not end this address without thanking the Federal Government for its unwavering support for the Scheme. Our appreciation also goes to State Governments, Local Government Councils, Security Agencies, the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, the National Agency for the Control of AIDS, the TY Danjuma Foundation, traditional rulers, Corps Employers and other stakeholders whose support has contributed to our successes over the years.”
