Three African Cup of Nations match fixtures have been moved from their designated centers to a new one, following the Confederation of African Football (CAF) decision to change the venue for the match.
The three matches are to be moved from the Japoma Stadium in Douala to Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde, Cameroon.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF), made this revelation on Wednesday. This urgent call was made due to concerns over the bad state of the pitch in Douala, not good enough for a tournament of this magnitude.
Two quarter-final matches and the February 2nd semi-final match are the games affected by the decision.
CAF president, Patrice Motsepe, had announced on Tuesday that the quarter-final due to be played at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde will be switched to the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium after a stampede that claimed the lives of eight football loving fans, who were trying to gain access into the stadium.
It is also worthy of note that CAF made a statement that the next match, scheduled for the Olembe Stadium will not take place until CAF and the Local Organising Committee have received the full report of the Investigation Committee into the stampede at Olembe Stadium, indicating the circumstances that led to the injury and death of spectators at the Olembe Stadium.
