PDP, APC trade words over disruption at defection ground in Funakaye, by unidentified hoodlums
Unidentified hoodlums on Saturday, disrupted the defection ceremony organised by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State.
The event was held to receive defectors across the Funakaye Local Area, whom were said to have dumped the broom for the umbrella in the council.
The viral video which was obtained by our correspondent, people were seen scampering for safety as the hoodlums rampaged the event.
Reacting to the attack, Publicity Secretary of PDP Muritala Usman described the incident as unfortunate.
He blamed the governing All Progressives Congress members for the disruption his party suffered at Funakaye.
“They are not telling you the truth the attack was by members of All Progressives Congress. They were scared of the number of defectors in the Local Government,” Usman said.
On his part, Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress Moses Kyari debunked the allegation that his party sponsored thugs to disrupt the activities of PDP.
Kyari said it was not possible, stressing that it may be intra party challenges that were left unchecked.
He said, “That was what I also saw on social media, come to think of it how can a gathering of over 5,000 people be dispersed by few miscreants, how is that possible?
The party scribe continued, noting that it would be impossible for such to happen when the ceremony had been endorsed by security agencies.
“Is it not possible that probably it is intra party squabble, I find it hard to believe that the gathering of 5,000 people can be dispersed by a small number of people. If they knew that they were coming from APC and they were coming to disrupt them why did they allow them?
“Does it mean no arrangement was made for security, where are the security men that approved the gathering? I want to believe it is intra party and not inter party thing,” Kyari added.
