Reps member, Tongo dumps APC in Gombe
A member representing Gombe/ Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency in House of Representatives Yaya Tongo, has tendered a letter of resignation.
Tongo was elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in 2019.
According to a viral letter, which was obtained by our correspondent, the lawmaker cited infractions to include; exclusion of his person from the recently held congresses, hijack of the ruling party by yet to be mentioned persons in the state.
The letter addressed to the party chairman Tongo ward dated 1st December 2021 was signed on 22nd January 2022, However, attempts made by our correspondent to authenticate and probe the lawmaker’s next move proved abortive.
Recall that a former Governor Danjuma Goje, was recently reconciled by the party hierarchy with his erstwhile political mentee Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, following party wranglings and shortfalls from the congresses.
Tongo noted that the exclusion financial members of the party like himself was staged by ‘certain gang’, adding that was detrimental to its development.
The resignation letter partly read,”Please sir, regrettably I write to formally inform you and all officials of All Progressives Congress Tongo electoral ward, Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State of my official resignation of my membership from APC.
“This decision of mine was arrived at after a careful observation of the numerous crises in the APC without any resolution in sight, all efforts made by well meaning of APC to bring about a peaceful resolution of the crises continue to meet brick walls. Some individuals have hijacked all party machineries and have consistently refused some of us space to actively contribute to the development of APC in Gombe State.
“Worthy of note of the sidelines, is the exclusion of my person from the last congresses by APC, where a charade was staged by a certain gang of to the detriment of all well meaning founding and financial of APC in Gombe State.”
While stating his exclusive preserve to determine his freedom of association the lawmaker said he was acting on that to return the party identity card.
“My right to resign membership of a political party is exercised with Nigerian constitutional provision, which gives me the right to do so in the event of unresolved issues bedevilling a political party such as in the All Progressives Congress Gombe State,” Tongo added
When contacted the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress Moses Kyari, said the move should not surprise political watchers in the state.
“If he has jumped out of the party it should not come as a surprise, we know it has been in the pipeline but I will not confirm it until I get it authentically from his ward chairman, to know if he has resigned or not,” Kyari said.
