Gombe Councillor gives reasons for 18-man appointment
No fewer than 18 personal aides have been appointed by Yahaya Yusuf Bajoga, the council representing Bajoga East, in Funakaye Local Government Area of Gombe State, saying that politics is not about making money.
Our correspondent reports that the viral notice of appointment include; a Principal Private Secretary (PPS), 12 special assistants, and five personal assistants.
Yusuf who also serves as chairman of Gombe Councillors’ Forum, an umbrella body of councillors from 114 wards of the state, said the appointment would help spread the dividends of democracy to his people.
He noted that his interest in politics is due to his quest to alleviate the sufferings of his people, noting that he has attracted other projects aside employment.
Yusuf who confirmed to our correspondent that aside politics, he is a successful business man is presently in tertiary institution, adding that education is key.
“I’m a Sociology undergraduate of University of Maiduguri. I’m not rich but my salary is enough to settle the number appointed, because politics should not be about making money but the impact on people,” Yusuf said.
While encouraging his colleagues to emulate him, Yusuf explained that those appointed which include; Special assistants on Political Matters, Empowerment and Orphans, Legal and Security Matters, Protocol, Women Affairs, and personal assistants on Islamic and Christian Religious Affairs, respectively, as well as PA on Public Complaint and PA on the Disabled and Physically Challenged, would assist him in carrying out his duties.
“I have renovated some portion of roads within my area, aside scholarship provided to about 40 students; 20 from primary three to six and 20 from secondary schools,” Yusuf added.
