APC chairmanship: Group urges Buhari, stakeholders on Almakura
Ahead of the National convention of the All Progressive Congress (APC), a political group known as Progressives Congress for Solidarity Movement Worldwide has urged the President, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and other party stakeholders to back Senator Tanko Al-makura as next chairman of the party.
The group made the plea in a press release issued to our correspondent on Thursday by Coordinator, Aliyu Balewa revealed that Almakura has been a long term political associate of the president since Buhari’s defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC).
The statement partly read, “Senator Tanko Almakura who stood by him when the likes of Senator Adamu worked against him in 2003, 2007 and 2011 respectively.
“Senator Almakura survived the odds to emerge governor under the CPC in Nassarawa state then and he is a pioneer member of the APC.
“We have critically studied the credentials of two candidates aspiring to become the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Tanko Al’makura and Senator Abdullahi Adamu both from Nasarawa State.”
Balewa revealed that Almakura has shown leadership, moral conduct in the various positions he held, stressing that he would do alot more in unifying the ruling party.
“Almakura’s vision to occupy the office is to consolidate on the gains recorded by the party he helped built. Also, Almakura’s track records as a party administrator cuts across the National Party of Nigeria (NPN), National Republican Convention (NRC), United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“Also, Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and All Progressives Congress (APC) to his time as governor of Nassarawa state when he emerged as the only governor on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011 and subsequently from 2015 to 2019 on the platform of the APC.
“Having said this, we believe he is the best man for job and his vast experience in party politics will help him make a good chairman,” the statement added.
