Why our chances in the league may be hampered -Gombe United Gaffer
The gaffer of Gombe United Aliyu Zubairu says lack of adequate funding may hamper his team’s chances in the Professional League.
Speaking shortly after the match with Abia Warriors, Zubairu noted that finance has tremendous way of motivating players.
The team currently occupies 10th position in the Nigeria Professional Football League based on available rating.
Zubairu said, “Okay ninth position we will continue to fight hard and see if we can improve before first round and finish around six or seven. We will definitely work towards that.”
Commenting on the target of his team in the league Aliyu said the team never bargained for the league.
He however, commended his management for standing in the gaps for the team during financial issues, adding that they usually sourced for resources to enable them travel especially during away matches.
“We are not bargaining for contention in the league, this is not the way to go everyone knows the financial problem of this team, any team that wants to contest this is not the
way it goes. Financially, the team has been going through hard time.
“From the chairman, to the General manager all the board members, they are doing alot of work going extra mile to make sure they get finances for the team to travel.”
He revealed saying, “No single match bonus has been paid to the team, there is nothing motivating the team as I speak to you, there are outstanding out of about 20 only one or two was paid and this season non, so nothing is moving us, alot of kudos to our management.
Recall that in 2021, Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Yahaya aside donating a bus to the team, also promised a 20 million naira monthly subvention.
