Gombe Police to collaborate with journalists in ensuring security
The Gombe State Police Command, says with collaboration and support from members of the media security would be enhanced for the good of the people, adding that information gathering is closely knitted to intelligence.
Making this assertion on Thursday, during a courtesy visit to members of the Gombe State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Correspondents’ Chapel, the newly appointed Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Mu’azu Mahid revealed that journalists are in the command’s efforts towards ensuring the safety of lives and property.
Mahid said his visit was to familiarise with journalists as well as to strengthen existing relations towards improving on the achievements so far recorded by the command.
The command’s image maker added that he would utilise social media platforms to address challenges hindering information sharing with journalists.
“I will make myself available towards ensuring that we collectively sustain the peace in Gombe State and improve public confidence and the image of the command.
According to him, under his leadership, he will work to bridge the gap in communications and promote good relations between the command and journalists in the state.
“Together, we will do things better and ensure we cement the relations for the purpose of ensuring that our state remain safe for everyone.
journalists in the state to continue to support the police by promoting the good works of the command to keep the state safe and free of criminalities of any sort.
The police spokesman said information sharing was key to having effective communications.
On his part, the NUJ chairman, Gombe State council, Saidu Malala tasked the new PPRO to work together with journalists to promote good working relations.
Malala urged Mahid on new innovations that should be applied to make communications between the command and journalists in the state swift and timely.
While pledging the council’s support the spokesman in his mandate, he said, “We will ensure that journalists in the state carry out their duties as professionally as possible.”
On her part, chairperson of the Correspondents’ chapel, Hajara Leman urged the new PPRO to be proactive, stressing the need to make information available.
She assured that journalists would continue to sustain existing good relations between the command and journalists.
“The command needs to improve in the area of information sharing that will make our job easier and timely,” Leman said.
