Gombe Fed Lawmaker heads investigation on duplication of govt agencies functions
The Speaker of the House of Representative Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila on Tuesday, during plenary appointed Hon. Victor Mela (APC, Gombe) to chair the ad-hoc committee to investigate the duplication of functions of agencies of federal government and other related matters.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after the plenary Hon. Victor Mela said the committee will holistically look into the issues but allayed fears that the mandate of the committee is not to sack workers.
“it is not going to be about losing jobs, but to meet with directors of MDA because that is where the problem lies, so as to ensure transparency and make government spend where it needs to spend,”
The Committee’s term of reference is to:
- Investigate duplication of duties, over-lapping functions and counter-productivity of established Agencies, Departments, Boards, Parastatals and Corporations in the country;
- Ascertain the root cause of regular bickering among some established Agencies, Departments, Boards, Parastatals and Corporations in the country;
- Establish area of mergers, synergies and justification of the existence of some established Agencies, Departments, Boards, Parastatals and Corporations which are no longer needed in the country and report back for further legislative action.
Hon. Victor Mela (APC, Gombe) appreciated the House leadership, Rt. Hon. Speaker, Femi Gbajabiamila, Deputy Speaker, Hon. Ahmed Idris Wase, House Leader, Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, and the Chief Whip, Hon. Mohammed Tahir Monguno, for the confidence, reposed in him to chair this all-important committee. While reassuring that the committee will complete its mandate in record time.
