Gombe govt partner NEDC, NJ Zahabih Educational Consultancy to get improved education
In a bid to explore all avenues towards ensuring that the standard of education is improved in the state, the government is partnering the North-East Development Commission and the Zahabih Educational Consultancy Services on Teachers training and retraining programs.
This was made known during the opening ceremony of a one week training workshop for Basic Education ( Primary and Junior Secondary) School Teachers in Gombe State at Education Resource Centre in the metropolis.
Declaring the workshop open, the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, said the development was as the result of a state of emergency declared on the education sector, as at inception of the present administration, the sector was performing below expectations.
Jatau noted with happiness that, the state of emergency has yielded positive results,by reducing the number of out-of-school children from 700,000 to less than 200,000, and Schools that were not conducive for learning were renovated, unsecured schools were fenced with perimeter walls and the health of students were promptly attended to, while Teachers needs have been improved and a Teacher Resource Centre was established to address their problems.
He said, “My dear lovers of Gombe, you will agree with me that based on the journey to the attainment of education, so far, the intervention by the North-East Development Commission, Education Endowment Fund in collaboration with Zahabih Education Consultancy Services.
“This is highly welcomed, commended, apt, germane and highly desirable. Unlike other interventions that are sometimes pushed on recipients without finding what their needs are, I am informed that this intervention was done with full participation and inputs from SUBEB under the Chairmanship of Elder Babaji Babadidi.”
He appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari and NEDC and observed that the intervention came at a time when Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya granted approval for employment of 1000 Teachers and deployment of 288 from LGA/ SUBEB, bringing a total of 1,288 Teachers to be employed at a time.
While congratulating the 300 lucky participants, the Deputy Governor called on the NEDC and the Ministry of Education to ensure continued training and retraining of teachers towards achieving the desired target.
He assured that their administration would continue to partner the NEDC, individuals and organizations to ensure that the state witnesses development and not mere growth.
In his remarks, the Commissioner of Education, Dauda Ma’aji Batari, informed the gathering that the state Governor has recently approved the appointment of one thousand teachers and redeployment of 288 from SUBEB to Senior Secondary Schools towards provision of quality education in the state.
He said, the administration has carried out some great changes in the education sector which made 79.5% students out of 11,074 scored five credits and above including English and Mathematics.
He also said, the administration is partnering the NEDC to build 500 housing units, most of which shall be for Teachers in boarding Schools to enable them contribute positively to educational development.
In their separate remarks, the Chairman, zahabih Consultancy Services Alh. Idris Mohammed, and and the Chairman Education Endowment Fund, NEDC Mr. Joshua Sangari said the North East Development Commission and the Zahabih Consultancy Services are collaborating to ensure problems bedeviling the region are adequately tackled for the benefit of the people in the region.
They expressed delight that the collaboration would take the sector to a greater height.
The Fund Secretary, Educational Endowment Fund, NEDC, Khalifa Lawan said, the commission has designed activities that will benefit the people in the area of education to include, Teacher training and retraining, building of school infrastructure in all local governments in the North East, to provide scholarship for undergraduate,post graduate and Ph.D programs, Special training sponsorship for Doctors and other Specialist as well as talent hunting and engaging Communities and schools in sports competitions among others.
The Deputy Chairman, Zahabih Education Consultancy Services, Gombe, Zakari Kudi explained that over one thousand five hundred teachers are to be trained in the North East Subregion, out of which three hundred teachers shall be from Gombe.
He said, already one hundred and fifty were trained and now one hundred and five are also to be trained in modern teaching techniques in view of challenges facing the sector and the general society.
The Chairperson, Teachers Service Commission, Mrs Na’omi Philip Maiguwa sent in her goodwill message through Director of Recruitment Alh. Yahaya Ahmed, and the State Coordinator, Teacher’s Registration Council as well as the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Teachers delivered their own goodwill messages commending the State government for providing opportunities for teachers to train and retrain towards developing the education sector.
They pledged their continued support to the administration for it to succeed in taking education in the North East and Nigeria, to greater heights.
