NSCDC names five LGAs as Kidnapping hotbeds
Worried by the rising profile of kidnapping activities in five Local Government Areas of Gombe state, the Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Waziri Baba Goni has appealed to members of the public to join hands with Government by giving timely information to security agencies in order to nip in the bud criminal activities in the state.
According to him, the hotbed of kidnapping activities in Gombe state include; Balanga, Kaltungo, Billiri, Nafada and Deba of the state, adding that his officers are mounting 24 hours surveillance and patrols at every nooks and crannies of the state.
He revealed that they were collaborating with other sister security agencies to ensure that kidnapping and other criminal activities are reduced to the barest minimum.
He said, “apart from some security points and patrols that the state Government initiated with other security agencies, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence corps are making 24 hours surveillances and patrols all the borders and all the local Government Areas of the state with some area Commands to ensure that Gombe state is safe.
He added, “You know there is some kidnappings most especially in axis of Balanga, Kaltungo, Billiri, Nafada and Deba axis, there is some security points and patrols that the state Government initiated with other security agencies, our officers are making 24 hours surveillances, patrols in all the borders and in all Local Government Areas and some area commands so they themselves should contribute a lot, they should be very keen, they should be very observant, when they see any stranger, they should be alerted and should alert any nearby security agencies either Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the police, SSS, the Army or even the vigilantes and hunters so that they will gear up and do the needful. These contributions, if they make, Gombe state will safe; these are my advice to them.”
Goni reiterated that the people of Gombe State should be very keen always because there is no place in the country that is completely 100 percent safe but the people should contribute especially at nights and day by giving timely and vital information which often helps in controlling the criminal activities in the state by security agencies.
“You know as a human being everyone has its peculiar challenges most especially in Nigeria today.
“The security challenges is very high, so our challenges is that when we refer to challenges is that some key information(s) are not given to security agencies by the public whether they are afraid to be kidnapped or whether they are afraid to be blamed or somehow like that.
“Our challenges are that we should have to get timely information and timely information and vital information is the best to control vices, so when information is not given and some certain things are done at the end of the day, it is just a situation report and you cannot do otherwise, so somebody who is either maimed, killed or is in hospital the only thing is to treat the person because the lapses is already done, so these are our challenges.”
