PIME team inspects facilities at the Gombe Airport
Gombe State Government has set in motion the process for the upgrade of facilities at the Gombe International airport to enable it compete favourably in the National and International Airspace.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation (PIME) Professor Namala Keftin Amuga disclosed this on Thursday, when he led members of PIME committee on an assessment tour of facilities at the airport on the directives of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
Amuga while expressing delight with the effort of the State Government in providing critical infrastructure and equipment necessary for smooth operations at the airport such as aircraft landing, take off facilities and additional power sources, however noted that alot need to be done as most of the equipment are either obsolete or non functional due to neglect over the years.
He also assured Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s passionate commitment to improvement of safety of aircrafts and passengers alike appealing to the federal and state agencies at the airport to co-operate with his committee by providing information necessary to enhance the operations of the airport.
The areas inspected for assessment include; communication facilities, runway, terminal, control tower, clinic, fire bay and Police Station among others where Professor Namala Keftin Amuga directed heads of various departments to furnish his office with detailed needs for government prompt action.
Conducting the Project Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee round the Airport, the Management Consultant Mohammed Nazif Saidu appreciated the state government’s efforts towards maintaining the airport and stressed the need for speedy upgrade as the competition in the Air travel space keeps getting higher by the day.
Mohammed Nazif Saidu also appealed for the immediate repairs of fallen perimeter fences and gully erosion control to guarantee safety of aircraft, passengers and workers, calling on agencies to work as a team for smooth operations.
