2023: Peter Obi woos Gombe delegates, assures of prosperous Nigeria
Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, on Sunday urged delegates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to unite in their quest to picking a flag bearer to solve myriads of the country’s challenges.
The presidential aspirant revealed that the issues facing Nigeria were surmountable with the right leadership, adding that his records were still visible for anyone to see.
Obi was vice presidential candidate in 2019 elections to Atiku Abubakar, where they came second to the current administration, made this disclosure in Gombe during his consultation with delegates in Gombe.
According to him, they should not consider immediate gains from the contenders but should vote knowing full well that the future of their children may be in jeopardy.
Periscope Nigeria reports that Obi was received at the Airport by the Igbo welfare organisation, who welcomed the former governor to the state.
He said, “You are delegate today, you will not be delegate tomorrow; When you have the opportunity to vote do not look at Peter Obi, Wike, Saraki look at the picture of your children and ask what type of future you want for them.
“Ask ask about his background, I’m a trader, I live in Onitsha ask what did this man do as a governor, your vote is very important, the society we are abusing today will take it revenge on our grandchildren.”
While commenting on the challenges of the country he revealed that insecurity would be tackled in two ways, stressing that livelihood of youths should be secured, and the equipping of security agencies.
Obi noted that until the North is secured food security would be a mirage, adding that he would secure the farms to support farmers productivity.
He said, “Nigerians use 100 percent of their income to feed. Everywhere I go people say how are we going to solve insecurity. You solve insecurity in two ways; people must have a means of livelihood, the more people are employed the better and equipping the security agencies. We have to create jobs for our young ones. What we need is to support youths. We must invest in Agriculture, we need to secure the north so that people can go back to farm.”
Obi continued saying, “We live in a country where we are not in control of our territory and economy. Every zone is unsafe, a question to ask is how did we get here but because of leadership failure, because we didn’t give opportunity to the young men and today they are taking revenge.
“Unemployment is the highest in the world and 60 percent of our youths doing nothing. We can no longer feed ourselves because we can’t go to farms. We are borrowing money we can’t pay, we are borrowing for consumption where is the capital project.”
Also speaking, State Chairman of the PDP, Maj Gen. Abnor Kwaskebe assured the presidential aspirant of the support of Gombe delegates, revealing that he has a long standing relationship with Obi.
He said, “We have heard you and we will give you the opportunity, I want to get the hardcopy of the speech you delivered to talk to the delegates. We are happy to have you, on behalf of Gombe delegates.”
