Failure to educate people yesterday, Nigeria’s problem today, says Peter Obi
Former Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi says the problem Nigeria battles with is the failure of leaders to educate the youths.
Our correspondent reports that Obi was received at the Gombe International Airport by Igbo welfare organisation who thronged to the place to welcome the former governor.
He stated that neglect of the young ones, has grave consequences on the future and the existence of the country, stressing that he has what was required to unify Nigeria.
Obi made this disclosure on Sunday, in an interview with journalists shortly after consultation with Gombe delegates at the Peoples Democratic Party secretariat.
The presidential aspirant was Vice Presidential candidate to Atiku Abubakar of the PDP during the 2019 election where they came second.
According to him, youths should be empowered with requisite education or skill set to enable them focused to the development of the country.
He said, “Education is very important to me and I have said it before that my number one project is education, two is education and three is education. Education is the most important investment any nation can do to it people.
“For me the problem we are having today is the people we didn’t educate yesterday, we need to educate them and ensure they have a means of livelihood.”
Commenting further on his programme, the presidential aspirant said he would focus on Human Development Index, to alleviate the sufferings of citizens.
“We have to focus on HEI- Human Development Index; Life expectancy which is health, education and per capital income which is pulling people out of poverty,” Obi added.
On his part, Maj-Gen. Abnor Kwaskebe (retd.), PDP Gombe state chairman assured obi of the delegates support, adding that he has a long standing relationship with him and that he has proven himself as man of integrity.
