Group donates medical equipment to Gombe teaching hospital
A leading telecommunications giant, MTN on Friday donated medical equipment to Gombe Federal Teaching Hospital to improve services rendered to residents.
The items include; two complete set of dental chairs, two gynaecology endoscopy operation set, and an ENT (Ear, Nose and throat) console workstation with a treatment accessories unit to aid treatments.
Commending the organisation for it far-reaching corporate social responsibility, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Prof. Isa Pantami said the donation would support staff towards providing improved services.
Pantami said government would not do all but through developmental efforts such as this alot would be achieved.
He said, “What the MTN Foundation has done today shows partnership and collaboration between the government and the private sector. Initiatives like this are beneficial to both the recipients and the donors; as you know, MTN is the number one most successful company in the telecommunications sector in Nigeria.”
He further urged other corporate entities to imitate MTN’s act which he described as progressive.
“We are thankful to the MTN Foundation for providing this equipment to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe State, and we encourage other organisations to emulate them,” he added.
Handing over the items to the hospital, Odunayo Sanya, the Executive Secretary of the Foundation said this was part of the organisation’s attempt at making lives better.
She revealed that since inception in 2004, the MTN Foundation has impacted over 2500 communities and over 30 million Nigerians across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory in Nigeria through its different community development initiatives.
Sanya said, “We believe that our success as a business is tied to the well-being of the people in communities where we operate. As such, we are always seeking collaborative opportunities to work with the Government and improve the quality of lives in our society.”
On his part, Chief Medical Director, Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe State, Dr. Yusuf Abdullahi, lauded MTN Foundation for the donation.
“We are very excited at the receipt of this equipment. The hospital serves parts of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Kano, Taraba and Yobe, so they serve a significant number of Northern Nigerians, and for this, we are grateful,” Abdullahi said.
