Gombe to Commence Supplemental Immunisation on Thursday
All is set for the commencement of the integrated supplemental immunisation mass vaccination campaign in Gombe State.
Briefing the press on the vaccination exercise, the commissioner of Health Dr. Habu Dahiru said it is the reflection of government effort towards the fight against childhood killer diseases.
He said diseases such as measles, yellow fever, meningitis, tetanus, polio and vitamin A deficiency amongst others still pose a major challenge to public Heath.
The commissioner said according available data, as at April 2022,the state recorded confirmed laboratory cases of measles 114, meningitis 12, covid-19 3,306 cases
Dahiru added that it in view of this that an integrated mass vaccination campaign will begin from seventeenth June to eighth July.
The commissioner said about three point one million people in the state are projected to be vaccinated with target on measles for children aged nine month to fifty nine months,Meningitis ( Men A) ,children and adult aged between nine months to forty four years.
Other vaccines to be administered included oral polio vaccine that will be given to children aged zero to fifty nine months, vitamin A ,blue capsule , six to eleven months and red capsules nine to fifty nine months and covid-19 for adults eighteen years and above.
The Commissioner added that vaccination teams will be at fixed post in Heath facilities, temporary posts within communities and mobile posts at special places such as mosque, churches, schools, playground and that the vaccination will involve all the targeted groups.
He said 14,300 personnel have been trained to conduct the exercise for total coverage.
The commissioner appreciated governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Federal Government, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, development partners,religious and traditional leaders for their support in all immunisation and primary health care activities.
