NPC engages 105 functionaries for trial census in Gombe
No fewer than 105 field functionaries have been engaged by the National Population Commission for its trial census in Gombe State.
According to the Chairman of NPC Nasir Kwarra, the officials were prepared to test the processes leading to a successful head count proposed for April 2023.
The chairman noted that out of 11 Local Government Areas of Gombe State, census would hold in eight, with exception of three.
Kwarra, represented by the Federal Commissioner Gombe State Abubakar Danburam, made this disclosure in Gombe during the opening ceremony of the state level training workshop for field personnel on trial census for the 2023 population and housing census at the Gombe State University.
He said, “In Gombe State, we have a total of 99 field functionaries which comprise of 90 enumerators, nine supervisors and six facilitators respectively. The quality of the personnel for the trial census has a great impact on its outcomes.
“The commission is determined to successfully conduct the trail census in our quest to deliver a credible, reliable, acceptable and verifiable census to the nation. It is in this regard that the commission will leave not stone unturned to ensure that the trial census is carried out meticulously, professionally and scientifically to provide a good foundation for the smooth conduct of the 2023 population and housing census.”
While commenting on the efforts of the commission to get accurate figures, Kwarra added, “the commission has introduced new technologies such as censusPAD and CSPro to ensure that the upcoming trial census serves as a good rehearsal that will make the 2023 population and housing census credible, reliable and acceptable. The geospatial and infrastructure data as well as the enumeration form shall be uploaded on the tablets, also called Personal Digital Assistant (PDA), which are ultra-portable computers that can run a variety of software programmes.”
