NEDC provides infrastructural development in Gombe

In Gombe State, North-East Development Commission has become a source of succour to the region by harnessing manpower development, provision of infrastructural facilities, empowerment of the people from the state and other numerous projects executed in the state within the period under review.

Recently, the Executive Governor of Gombe State, Alh. Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya, was represented by the
Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management
and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, also represented by the Special Adviser, Humanitarian, Group Capt. Sadeeq Garba Shehu, high ranking officials of the State Government, Traditional Rulers and Religious Leaders, the NEDC; ED, Humanitarian Affairs, Alh. Trustee, AVM Mohammed Auwal Bashir, other Management Staff and members of the public witnessed the official launching of Northeast Development Commission- Education Endowment Fund (NEDC-EEF) Scholarship Scheme and Portal.
Also, the Commission presented Certificates and Starter-Packs to Graduates of the NEDC ICT Training Programme, Ground-breaking for the Construction of a Block of Three (3) Classrooms and handing over of 500KVA Generator Set to Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe.
The epoch event was highly commendable by Nigerians making the Managing Director/ Chief Executive Officer of NEDC, Mohammed G. Alkali to recall with nostalgia that in October 12th, 2021, the Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya presided over the graduation ceremony of 204 beneficiaries of Batch B ICT Training Program, and now 198 graduates are graduating making the total number to 579 till date.
He reiterated that Commission made it clear that soon they would be back for the graduation ceremony of the 3rd batch of additional 200 Graduates which they have come to fulfill their commitments.
According to the MD, “the graduands will be provided with Starter-Packs and cash incentives of N25,000:00 each
to start their businesses in their chosen field of entrepreneurship. We
are pleading for the Government’s support as usual as in the previous
cases. Promise Made, Promise Kept and Promise Fulfilled.”
He further added that the Commission will establish two additional ICT
Training Centres in the State, pointing out that he is proud to announce the
Federal Polytechnic Kaltungo and National Institute of Technology are
ready for commission, there will be one in each Senatorial District.
“Our Training rate will triple to 600 candidates per session, which will
provide the opportunity to train 2000 candidates in a year. Another
Promise Made, Promise Kept and Promise Fulfilled,” the Managing Director added.
Alkali explained that the scholarship
award and other incentives under the NEDC-EEF that their ICT graduands will use the opportunity to apply for the scholarship award which will cover all aspects of education – primary schools, health, agriculture, etc.
In addition to that the Commission is constructing 500 Housing Units,
contracts have been awarded and work is on-going across the LGAs in
Gombe and all the other states of the North-East, stating further that they will be visiting the construction site in Gombe Town to assess progress so far
made.
The Managing Director recalled that the Commission is reconstructing the Gombe Abba to Kirfi in Bauchi State which would enhance socio-economic activates between Bauchi- Gombe States respectively.
In addition, towards meeting the health needs of the people across the North East Region the Commission, Alkali revealed the donation of a 500KV Generator set to the Federal Teaching Hospital which will in turn promote efficient healthcare services through the provision of uninterrupted power supply.
The Commission has since its inception has continued to assist the Federal
Teaching Hospital Gombe in several ways towards enhancing its basic
operations in the State.
He said, “These include support to strengthen the Hospital’s capacity in the coverage and treatment of Covid 19 cases through donation of preventive items, ambulances, PPEs and other medical consumables as well as the establishment of a molecular laboratory to also treat other diseases”.
