PVC: How politicians took over Suru Alaba registration points – Eye witness
Following Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), July 31st deadline, citizens have been making efforts to do last minute registration.
Some INEC officials have been accused at Suru Alaba area of Lagos colluding with politicians to stifle the process, thereby making it difficult for residents to register.
Speaking in a telephone interview with our correspondent Frances Uchechukwu, said politicians had hijacked the process, with many of them referring their loyalists to centres without recourse to queues.

According to her, after over five hours of waiting when it finally got to her turn the system went off, adding that politicians had their enrollees, at the detriment of the existing queue.
She said, “In the PVC registration centre at Suru Alaba area of Lagos. The first queue is for those that doesn’t know any body. The second queue is like Warisi has 20 candidates (enrollees), and Alhaja has another 20 candidates, Buraimo has another 20 candidates.
“While the first queue has about 80 persons, they will take two from the normal people and three from the purported candidates. This is with inclusion of those with slip coming to collect their cards. They gave me number 276, Next thing they brought another list and the system shut down.”
Lamenting how her long wait yielded no result Uchechukwu revealed that officials were seen collecting inducements to jump the queue, she added, “It is very clear citizens don’t want to be helped and they prefer bribe.”
Attempts made to reach Chief Press Secretary to the INEC chairman Rotimi Oyekanmi, proved abortive as at the time of filing this report as efforts made to find out what the commission was doing was unsuccessful.
