In the rural areas, there’s this belief that a girls shouldn’t dry her under wears were it can be seen. So you have them drying their inner wears where there’s no sun light at all or sufficient ventilation. Others who barely have sufficient under wears wash and wear them before they get dried. Unfortunately, the incidents of PANT HUNTERS have made the situation worse.
Menstrual hygiene amongst rural girls is low because of the culture and stigma associated with it. Many girls lack sanitary towels and even PANTS to use during their monthly cycle.
Poor menstrual hygiene and bodily hygiene amongst rural girls and women have made them susceptible to preventable infections.
As an advocate for Women and Girls, I am using this opportunity to call on you and your family to support rural girls with pants and sanitary towels. Women fellowship groups or house holds can reach out to girls in rural communities or supply NGOs with these commodities to reach rural girls. If you are a Man and you want to support you can send your wife or use women groups.
Use every opportunity to educate them on Menstrual hygiene and bodily hygiene, don’t just give them the commodities and turn back.
This is a global call and it’s urgent.
When taking education to the girl child in the rural community, go along with sanitary commodities. Because it is when she is comfortable, that she can learn.
Leaving no girl behind.
