No fewer than 50 girls from rural communities in Akko Local Government have benefitted from an endowment of former Appeal Court President Zainab Bulkachuwa.

The girls are expected to enjoy free tuition, school supplies, breakfast tokens, admission placement, job placement, mentorship and all the support required to thrive and become leaders.
Periscope Nigeria reports that 50 had been inaugurated from Nafada Local Government Area of Gombe State in March, this is in line with the retired jurist’s desire to adopt 200 girls.

Speaking during the inauguration which coincides with this year’s International day of the girl-child with the theme:”Our time is now – our rights, our future”, Programme Manager of Adda Girl Education Foundation Samira Galadima, described Bulkachuwa as its archetype, saying “We want to model these young girls to be like her in the judiciary, and Health sector; Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and of course the Media.”
According to her, the initiative was aimed at building the girl-child from cradle to leadership.
“The foundation will bring the best in the public and private sectors towards closing the gender gaps in education and securing a better future for girls. The foundation’s main objective is to build a new set of female leaders empowered with the education and leadership skills required to make positive changes in Nigeria,” Galadima added.
Explaining further on how the beneficiaries were drawn, Galadima said the foundation alongside School-based management committee drew criteria, she said, “Girls from vulnerable families, girls that without support will find it difficult to complete school or might have to drop out. The SBMC’s brought those girls to us we don’t know them. We interviewed the girls after that, selected those that met the criteria.”
