Zamfara Gov urges Islamic clerics on prayer for Nigeria, peaceful co-existence
The Governor of Zamfara State, Bello Mohammed, has called on Islamic scholars in the country to pray fervently for peace, tranquility and unity of the country.
The Governor made the call on Thursday, while receiving a delegation of Northern Nigeria Youths Ulama Initiative who paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Gusau.
According to a statement issued by the Press Secretary to Governor, Jamilu Magaji, Mohammed said, as the state is faced with serious security challenges and coupled with the 2023 general elections fast approaching, there is need for Islamic scholars to pray for the complete return of peace, tranquility, and national unity.
While appreciating the group for the visit, he said their coming to Zamfara State is timely considering the fact that, the state needs their fervent prayers against banditry and other heinous crimes bedeviling the state and threatening the successful conduct of the forthcoming 2023 general elections.
He hoped that their prayers will by the grace of the Almighty Allah guarantee peace, tranquility, security and harmony in all parts of the state.
He stressed the need for all Islamic scholars and indeed people of the country to get involved in the process of peace building in order to get the country to work for the good of all citizens.
On the forthcoming 2023 APC electioneering campaigns, the Governor called on the Ulamas to use their position, “enlighten the public on the need to vote APC Presidential candidates, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governors and other candidate of the party, saying Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has all the potentials to take the country to the promised land,” the press statement said.
He said as the APC soon unveils its blueprint and plans for Nigerians, if voted into power, there is need for clerics to educate the electorate on the importance of electing people of integrity and proven character.
Earlier, the National Secretary of the group, Dr Alkasim Abdullahi Damagun and National patron of the organisation Sheikh Muhammad ibn Usman, told the Governor that the organization was in the state to appreciate the wonderful performance of Governor Bello Matawalle in uplifting the standard of living of the people, especially in his efforts of fighting insecurity in the state.
The two Islamic scholars described Governor Mohammed as peace maker, great builder and silent achiever who contributed to the development of Islam and humanity.
At the occasion, the Northern Nigeria Youths Ulama Initiative honoured Governor Matawalle with Merit Award as GOLDEN GOVERNOR OF THE YEAR 2022 in recognition of his immense contributions to the development of Zamfara state and Northern Nigeria in general.
