Why I donated traffic control stand to Gombe Police Command- Ex-Youth corps member
Mr Echefula Wisdom who served his fatherland in Gombe State with state code GM/21B/2191 said he constructed and donated a traffic control stand to the Police Command to give comfort to the traffic warden officers in Tumfure community.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Wisdom on July 23 donated the stand to the commissioner of police in Gombe State, Ishola Babaita.
The stand was then mounted on a road in Tumfure community of Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Wisdom in an interview with PERISCOPE NIGERIA on Thursday said his gesture was borne out of the need to ensure that those who serve the country in any capacity were supported to serve well.
He said he had been crossing the busy road and noticed the high volume of traffic and people crossing through the help of the traffic warden officers who render services under “an uncomfortable atmosphere.’’
“While going to work as a corps member serving in the state, I noticed some female officers controlling traffic under the scorching sun directing children.
“Another day, I saw these officers under the rain very dedicatedly doing their job to ensure that children going to school were able to cross the road.
“Two months back as I was coming back from work, one of the traffic warden officers was almost hit by a motorcycle and I said no I must do something about it as my way of impacting the society.
“The police officers are serving us and if they are not there, we may lose the lives of some children to accidents which would be a loss to the society also, hence my intervention,” he said.
He said Nigerians must imbibe the culture of appreciating people who serve the public as a way of encouraging more Nigerians to sacrifice more for the good of the country.
Wisdom said his intervention was in line with one of the mandates of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) to make impact towards the development of Nigeria, “so I decided to contribute my quota in that regard.”
He stated that the stand cost over N158, 000 which he sought through appeals to some lawyers in the state.
“I joined in the construction to save cost because the stand was initially estimated to cost almost N200, 000.”
On his advice to youths, Wisdom, 24, who studied law at the River State University said youth in the country had obligation to do what was right for the good of the country.
“If you see any problem in your community, kindly use any lawful avenue available to assist in proffering solutions for the love of the country because we have no other motherland except here(Nigeria).”
