The former Akwa Ibom State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mike Igini, has blamed the commission for registering underage voters.

The immediate past Resident Electoral Commissioner of Akwa Ibom State, who was a Lagos-based social critic, made this known on Thursday on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme, monitored by our Correspondent.

PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that he called for the prosecution of electoral  offenders.

Igini, emphasised that individuals involved in the INEC registration process were all staff of the commission, which makes it achievable to trace those involved in the act.a

The former REC blamed the failure of values in society as being responsible for underage registration, berating parents who allowed their underaged children to register as voters.

“Those who have done this are staff of INEC, I can tell you. If you register as a registration officer, you register with your personal ID (identity card), all of them can be traced.

“Anyone who undermines the confidence of public institutions must be brought to book,” he said.
