The Tiv Community in Taraba State has called on Governor Darius Ishaku, to fast track the return of their Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homes before the expiration of his tenure.

This was contained in a Communique issued at the end of the 22nd Tiv Day Celebration which held in Bali, Bali Local Government Area of Taraba State.

The Communique which was signed by Chief David Gbaa, Ter Bali (II), and Chairman Tiv traditional council Taraba state and the General secretary, Chief Nelson Targema Ukange, the people noted with dismay that for more than three years now, so many of their displaced persons from different Communities were still living in IDPs.

The people while calling on registered voters to collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) to vote for credible leaders in the 2023 election, they also frowned at the manner in which they are recognised during electioneering campaign but denied positions of authority after elections are won, and called for amendment.

The communique read, “We the Tiv community of Taraba state wishes to appeal to governor Darius Ishaku to fast track the return of our Internally Displaced Persons who have been displaced from their ancestral homes and are taking refuge at various IDP camp for more than three years now.

“While we commend governor Ishaku for appointing some of our sons and daughters in his government, we however wish to express our displeasure, the manner in which we are recognized during campaign but denied positions of authority in the state when ever elections are conducted and won, and call for amendment.”

“While we also condemn the general insecurity bedeviling the state and call on all Tiv youth to shun criminality, go to school and revive the spirit of respecting for elders, we condemned in totality the ongoing crisis in Takum local government area and called on stakeholders to address the issue with all forms of urgency,” The Communique added.
