CFID partners Taraba govt to end Antimicrobial resistance

The Centre for Initiative and Development (CFID), on Friday commenced partnership with Taraba state government to and end Antimicrobial resistance in the state.
Dr. Danjuma Adda, founder and Chief Executive Officer of (CFID), explained during a stakeholders meeting in Jalingo that the partnership became necessary due to the alarming figure of deaths record as caused by Antimicrobial across the globe.
According to him, 1.27 million people die annually as a result of antimicrobial resistance, noted that the partnership was a Strategy aimed at addressing antimicrobial resistance across Taraba state.
“The alarming rate of antimicrobial resistance across the globe is the reason we have gone into partnership with Taraba state government to fight it.
“The global record has shown that, 1.27 people died of Antimicrobial resistance annually. Adequate move to checkmate antimicrobial resistance in Taraba has been established by the state government in collaboration with CFID and other line ministries.
“Technical Working Group (TWG) assigned with the responsibility of tackling AMR and resistance partners has already been set up by the state ministry of health in collaboration with CFID and other line ministries. The group will leave no stone unturned in addressing AMR issues in Taraba.
“More harm will be recorded if urgent measures are not harnessed to address the menace of Antimicrobial as the use of antibiotics has an impact that is not just on the patients using them but also on the global community,” Dr. Adda explained.
In his speech, the state commissioner for health Dr. Innocent Vakkai, frowned at the irrational use of drugs as people prescribing drugs outside trained medical doctors were quack.
According to the Commissioner, as part of efforts to tackle resistance, the state government has put in place mechanisms to checkmate quackery in the medical profession.
