Gombe Domesticates VAPP, CRA

Gombe State has domesticated Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act, Child Protection law also referred to as Child Rights Act in the state.
Disclosing this on Friday, shortly after the State’s Executive Council meeting presided by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, Commissioner for Women Affairs Naomi Awak, said the laws were not only limited to the protection of children, women but everyone.

Our Correspondent reports that with the latest development Gombe would join states in the federation with enabling laws to prosecute gender-based violence.
According to the Commissioner, with the lastest development the rights of citizens would be protected, as specific punishments would be meted to violence-related issues.
She said, “Until the coming of Governor Muhammadu Yahaya that has the interest at heart. He facilitated the child rights act and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act. Knowing full well that the laws involves all and it is not just on women, it takes care of all gender and they have been domesticated.
“The Gombe State protection policy has been enhanced.
He knows the value of humanity as he has ensured that this policies are in place in Gombe State.”
Awak, noted that Governor Muhammadu Yahaya has paid about 400 million naira to include women into Nigeria for women project, stressing that it would help alleviate the sufferings of women.
“The governor also paid over 400 million naira to key into Nigeria for women project. This project will enhance and scale up the livelihoods of women and will address issues of gender irregularities, to make sure Gombe State is scaled up economically,” Awak said.
