A Civil Society group, Nigerian Network for the Promotion of Rule of Law (NINPROL), on Thursday led a protest to Taraba State Government House Jalingo, demanding justice for people allegedly incarcerated by the state government.

Leader of the group, Barr. Tanko Danjuma, while addressing the representative of Governor Darius Ishaku, Hon. Anthony Jellason, said the group was demanding that good governance be entrenched in the state.

“We are asking that the rule of law should be respected. Where people are incarcerated without trial or fair hearing, it becomes a problem.
“Recently, people were arrested on the orders of the state government, we are demanding that government should avail them a fair trial.
“Today is Mr. Yakubu Samaila, Isah Ma’aji, Danladi Jibatwen, Samuel Ayodele, and Meshack. Tomorrow it will be another person. We need them to be subjected to a fair trial and not continuous incarceration without a fair trial,” he said.
But Hon.Anthony Jellason, Secretary to the Taraba State Government, while addressing the protesters at the Government House gate, directed the leaders of the protesters to formally submit a letter of their demands to his office for action.
“I don’t know what your demands are because I have not received any letter from you as you claimed.
“I want to advise that you come with the letter to my office so that we will look into the issues and find an amicable solution where all parties will be happy.
“Mistakes can be made but can be addressed as well. Two wrongs cannot make a right. We need to sit down at the table and discuss the issues to find an amicable solution,” he said.
