IDEAS project trains 80 on Quality Assurance in North-East

No fewer than 80 participants in North-East are being trained as Quality Assurance Assessors (QAA), in Gombe State.
Our Correspondent reports that the training was organised by Major Academy, in collaboration with National Board for Technical Education, Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS), project with support from World Bank.

Speaking NBTE Executive Secretary Prof. Muhammad Bugaje, who was represented by Yakubu Ibrahim, Director Internal Audit, assured the board’s commitment to collaborate with all relevant stakeholders in ensuring, “that Nigerian youths are not only skilled but also certified in all skills area in the formal and informal sector of the Nigerian economy through the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF).
While commending the World Bank, for funding the IDEAS project, “I wish to call on Nigerian industries, who are the major beneficiaries of the skills training system, to takeover the funding of the framework,” Bugaje added.

Also speaking, National Coordinator of IDEAS project Blessing Ogwu, who was represented by Ihuoma Chidiebere, disclosed that when the rudiments of skills acquisition are embraced it would yield the deserved goal.
Ogwu said, “Trainees would come out to become entrepreneurs, they will become self reliant. This very project is private sector driven with this more will be achieved, since they are the owners of the industries. If they are attentive, and committed they will become better assessors.”

On his part, Project Manager of IDEAS Engr. Abati Mohammed, explained that the engagement was geared towards training Assessors from Technical Colleges and Industries.
“We have two classes of 40 participants in each they will be trained with the Nigerian Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF),” Mohammed said.
He disclosed that after the two weeks training trainees would go for two months practical industry-based training, he added, “they will assess two to three candidates and ensure they are certified under the NSQF, that will be the prerequisite as Quality Assessors.”

Abubakar Saidu, from Taraba State, and Zainab Aliyu Abubakar from Gombe State, are some of the participants, they lauded the initiative of the project, stressing that they would show commitment towards successfully becoming Quality Assessors.
