Maina Urges Journalists On Multimedia Story Telling

A Development Journalist, Rebecca Caleb Maina, on Monday urged journalists to use various available digital platforms to tell compelling stories.
Maina, made this disclosure in her presentation ‘Digital and Multimedia Story Telling, noted that the desire to enlighten, inform and entertain would not be lost, instead would be achieved.

The Broadcast Journalist, who doubles as Chairperson The Challenge Initiative (TCI) Media Working Group, disclosed this at the last quarterly meeting held at Whitehill Hotel, Gombe.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that aside Child Spacing, the group has been involved in amplifying voices, around other health issues affecting residents of the state.

According to Maina, digital and multimedia story telling is the practice of using digital tool such as timelines, audio, videos and images to create non traditional forms of story telling.
She said, “Digital storytelling is a short form of digital media production that allows everyday people to create and share their stories online.
“Digital tool is a powerful tool in the hands of journalists.”

Explaining further on digital audience, Maina added “Digital Audiences are individuals engaging with a specific people/organisation online. They do not have the time to read jargons.
They may be different from audience on radio or television.”
While explaining some rudiments of writing for digital audience, the Broadcaster stressed that creators of digital contents should strive to keep it simple and short.

Tell a story at a go, Can your story be consumed at a go, Get inspirational angles.Find topics that are not currently popular among your audience but could be interesting for them,” Maina added.

Also speaking, Chairman, Gombe Advocacy Working Group (AWG), Alhassan Yahya, urged journalists to apply relevant trainings acquired on the job.
He noted that as the most crucial way to grow, as a practitioner, revealing that “there are opportunities out there but you need to prove to be capable,” he said.
On his part, A Representative of The Challenge Initiative (TCI), Timothy Winkle, commended the support of the media in enlightening the people on issues of Child Spacing.
According to Winkle,”The media is doing well but like Oliver Twist, we want to ask for more.”
Meanwhile, The Deputy Family Planning Coordinator Aise Fada, has disclosed that Gombe State recently took delivery of commodities for the last quarter, adding that the era of stock-out was long gone.
She noted that as part of efforts geared towards sustaining the tempo, “A team was trained on quantifying and making forecast of commodities.”
Our Correspondent reports that no fewer than 18 journalists, cutting across Print, Electronic and Online, attended the last quarterly meeting in 2022.
