Election: Gombe Govt, Police Commit To Adequate Security
The Gombe State Government said it would not condone a situation where electorates are threatened during or after exercising their franchise.
According to the Commissioner for Information, Meshack Lauco the security agencies have been warned to deal with such issues.
Lauco made this disclosure on Saturday in a Telephone interview with PERISCOPE NIGERIA on the protection as the 2023 draws near.
Lauco said, “The government will not allow anybody attacking anyone for exercising his franchise. The security agents have been directed to be on top of the situation to ensure people vote freely without any form of molestation.”
On his part, Commissioner of Police Oqua Etim at a stakeholders’ meeting said the police is resolute in ensuring peaceful electioneering process.
He noted that its required the collaboration of all parties, stressing that it would not allow the relative peace enjoyed in Gombe to be compromised.
“Under my watch as the Commissioner of Police, Gombe State and with the support of my fellow security agencies, we will ensure that no unscrupulous elements truncate the democracy we are enjoying,” he said.
Etim added, “whoever is caught with cutlass or any weapons will be treated like criminal.
“Billboards do not win elections; they (billboards) do not have PVCs, so why the attack on billboards?
“There is no need to fight; if you fight and kill yourself, set the state on fire, will there be elections?
“Gombe is one people; one state, let’s work together to ensure a peaceful conduct of elections in the state.”
