The Gombe Police Command on Tuesday warned residents about storing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) in business premises and houses, following panic buying, adding that such could cause fire incidences.

According to the Public Relations Officer ASP Mahid Mua’zu Abubakar, residents should be aware of the risks of storing Premium Motor Spirit to both lives and property.
He noted that the harmattan season is a major reason why such storage should not be encouraged.

Abubakar said, “The Command has noticed the artificial scarcity of Premium Motor Spirit being caused by unscrupulous elements resulting to panic buying and hoarding of the product in neighbourhood and residential areas in Gombe metropolis and environs.
“Considering the harmattan season which is associated with fire incidents cases.”
While cautioning parents to desist from engaging children on road side, especially those vending petroleum products, the command frown at the negative impact to the society.
“The Command under the watch of CP Oqua Etim is strongly admonishing the public to desist from hoarding the inflammable products in their houses or business premises leading to avoidable occurrences of fire outbreak.
“Members of the public especially parents are to caution their children and wards who engage in road-side petrol vending,” Abubakar said.
