No fewer than 65 artisans and school leavers have benefitted from training organised by the National Directorate of Employment in Gombe.

The Basic Business Training was held under Small Scale Enterprises Department to train beneficiaries on basic aspects of business management skills.
Speaking, Director-General of NDE Abubakar Fikpo, disclosed that the role of the local barber, shoe shiner, hair dresser, and similar players in the economy couldn’t be disregarded.

Represented by State Coordinator Jediel Stephen, Fikpo stated that this was important since in no distant time barber could become a conglomerate tomorrow.
He said, “Despite all these potentials of the informal sector operators, the actualisation of their full impact can only become real when their businesses are successful which can be achieved when they are able to manage the technical and management aspects of their businesses.
“It is equally pertinent at this time to inform you that most developed nations of the world did not achieve economic prosperity because of the large corporations that exist therein but through the small scale businesses based on the formal sector that provide employment for the majority of their populace.’
While lamenting the negative impact of unemployment in the country, Fikpo noted that as reason for investing in training the youths in various skills set based on the need in their community and their choice of the beneficiary.
“You will be equipped with managerial skills in record keeping, cash management and other significant topics that would equip you with enough knowledge to succeed in your businesses,” Fikpo added.
Also speaking, Deputy Director SSE, Chikodi Ike, who was represented by Joshua Bukar, urged the participants to pay full attention on what they are taught, “and ask questions when you require a clarification,” Ike said.
On his part, NDE Zonal Director of North-East Moses Uba, commended the beneficiaries for being selected.
Uba, urged them to utilise the opportunity in order to improve their businesses.
