COE Billiri: Gombe Gov appoints first female Provost
In furtherance of his human capital development and inclusiveness in governance, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has appointed first female head of state owned tertiary institution in the history of Gombe State.
Presenting a letter of appointment to the new Provost of College of Education Billiri, Dr Bertha Lonis, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, reiterated his administration’s commitment to working closely with Women of substance in his quest to take the state to greater height of development.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, at a brief but historic occasion at the residence of an elder statesman Dr Micha Jimeta in Kaltungo, Sunday, the Governor congratulated Dr Bertha Abdu Danja, on her well deserved appointment charging her to live up to expectations of his administration.
He maintained that her selection for the appointment was purely on merit and she is therefore expected to deliver on her mandate as well as inspire more women with confidence and opportunities to aim for higher responsibilities in governance.
In a remark, Jimeta appreciated Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for honouring Shongom and Kaltungo communities with the appointment assuring the people’s continued support to the policies and programmes of the APC led administration and the re-election bid of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for a second term in office.
Jimeta, who was visibly elated said electorate in the state should not be blinded by the ratings of the so called opposition candidates that have no credentials in public administration, stressed the need for people in Shongom and Kaltungo local governments to reciprocate the love demonstrated by the Yahaya led administration by massively paying back by ensuring that they contributed in returning him into office.
The elder statesman who said he will be 83years by next month God willing said as principle, he never pays good with evil restated his resolve to work for the continuity of the Inuwa Yahaya administration which he said has done so much for Shongom and Kaltungo local government areas more than any administration in the history of the state.
He noted that Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has broken the barriers of tribalism and nepotism in the governance of the state by the appointment of distinguished sons of Gombe South in Key administrative positions in addition to multi billion naira developmental projects in the two local governments of Shongom and Kaltungo calling on the people to shine their eyes and vote wisely in the forthcoming elections.
In their respective comments, the state commissioner of Information and Culture Mr Meshak Lauco, APC state publicity Secretary Moses Kyari,Nigeria Football Association Chairman in the state Sarma Yakubu commended Governor Yahaya for choice of Bertha to head the State state College of Education Billiri considering her contribution to the development of education in the country challenging the appointee not let the government and people of the state down in the discharge of her mandate.
The local government Chairmen of Shongom and Kaltungo councils Yohanah Nahari and Faruk Aliyu, appreciated the honour of the governor for considering one of their own for appointment and appealed for additional permanent Secretary in Shongom local government in particular to it at par with it’s peers across the state.
In her brief but emotion laden remark, Mrs Edna Jimeta a one time commissioner in the former Bauchi State who dedicated her life to fighting the cause of women lauded Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for this singular act of goodness to the women of Shongom and Kaltungo communities.

Mrs Edna Jimeta who said Governor Yahaya has done her proud with the appointment of women into sensitive positions in his administration also used the occasion to encourage Dr. Bertha Abdu Danja to work assiduously to justify the confidence of the people and government of the state.

The representative of the District Head of Shongom who is Waziri of Shongom Mr. Nappi Muhammed Iganus, while appreciating the Governor assured of the people’s support in the Governors re-election bids.
The newly appointed Provost COE Billiri Danja, thanked Governor Yahaya for the appointment and promise to put in her best in the discharge of her duties.
