Rivers United Coach blames team’s defeat on lapses, same colour Jersey
Coach of Rivers United FC Stanley Eguma, has decried the negative impact of same jersey on his team’s showing against Doma United FC.
The match which was played on Sunday at Pantami stadium Gombe, ended 2-1 against Rivers United.
Eguma who lamented the poor showing blamed it on what he described as lapses, “It was a good game, only that there are lapses from our team and we paid dearly for it.”
He disclosed that every match deserved serious attention towards forging a better front, adding that “There is no implication the thing is that we have to face every match as very important. We didn’t give the match what it deserved because we were abit lackadaisical in our approach. It a problem we can always resolve.”
Speaking about the assessment of the officiating of the match, “We had a penalty but the referee did not give us and I don’t know how to contest it because my players were goal bound but referee asked the game to continue. I don’t want to complain because we have assessors assessing the game.”
On the similar jersey colour worn by players of both teams Eguma said, “right from the beginning referee showed he was not able to handle the game because he should have called for a change of jersey. The two jerseys were similar and the players were making mistake in the field, it affected my team so much because you can’t wear blue and white and opponent is wearing blue and white the two teams are wearing the same thing.
“I have never seen where referee will allow this kind of game to continue; the two teams complained yet referee could not do anything that they should continue because we were virtually passing our balls to opponents. We will forge ahead, the league is still on.”
On his part, Coach Akinade Onigbinde of Doma United, ascribed the successes of his team to God and determination of his boys, “I’m very grateful to God we thank God for the results the boys worked towards it and God also helped us on it,” Onigbinde said.
“I don’t know why they allowed that,” Onigbinde reacting to the negative impact of similar jersey by opposing teams.
