Special Adviser to Gombe State Governor, Ahmed Shuaibu-Gara Gombe, has decried the hardship brought by the redesigned notes on residents.
Gombe, made this disclosure in an exclusive chat with our Correspondent on the challenges brought by the recent policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Recall that the apex bank recently redesigned N200, N500 and N1000 notes.
Gombe said,” The problems associated with new notes have not subsided at all people are still looking for the elusive new naira notes. There is continuous disdain for the new naira notes people don’t want to collect it, even though it’s still a legal tender the CBN office in Gombe have tried to take the changes to the hinterland to some remote villages but they were overwhelmed as you can’t give what you don’t have in as much as demand is higher than supply economically there will always be issues, problems. Honestly, the few ATMs dispensing the few new naira notes are saturated with middle class, lower class people who are suffering innocently.”
Speaking on the challenges associated with substitutes for payments, “There are issues such as epileptic power supply, network failure even in urban settlement talk less of rural areas. But because we are law abiding citizens that is why you don’t see people protesting like other states about scarcity of the new naira notes.
On the possiblity of February 10 Gombe said, “is not realistic, not realistic because you can’t say the remaining 900 billion is still in private homes and not in banking system. You cant get it back, you can’t stop people from keeping money at home, shops. If they say June that will be fine.”
“His Excellency, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, will always stand as he has always been by any position not only by governors but a popular position that will serve the best interest of the public the people of Nigeria, and particularly the people of Gombe State. You know him as critical thinker he has always been at forefront as standing for the best policy decision of government at all level,” Gombe added.
