The National Association of Nigerian Students in Europe, has called on the Federal Government to quickly investigate to ascertain the number of Nigerian students affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkiye.

The call is contained in a statement by the National President of the Association, Bashiru Saidu Muhammad made available to newsmen on Friday.

According to the statement, “I am deeply saddened and concerned by the devastating earthquakes that have recently occurred in Turkiye in which thousands of people have tragically lost their lives, with many more sustaining various degrees of injuries.”

Muhammad added that ascertaining those affected by the disaster will enable preparedness by the Federal government to provide support and assistance.

“As the National President of Nigerian Students in Europe, I have not yet been able to confirm the number of Nigerian students affected by this tragedy. I therefore, urge the Federal Government of Nigeria to quickly investigate in order to ascertain the number of Nigeria citizens who have been affected by this disaster, and provide the necessary support and assistance to those that are injured or displaced.”

He disclosed that he had intimated the Chairman of the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama about the incident.

“I have already informed the Chairman of the Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Abike Dabiri-Erewa and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama about this incident, and I hope that immediate action will be taken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all Nigerians in Turkey. My heart goes out to every person affect,” the statement further reads.
